5 Best Car Camping sites in California,

that allow and commentate and setup for car camping.

Beautiful locations, and manage by National or State Parks.

First Time Car Camping TipsCar Camping:

Car camping is a good safe way for a camping beginner would be car camping.

And state parks are making car camping more accessible by including a wide variety of car camping sites.

Whether you’re looking for a mountain retreat, or a spot near a lake, a stream, or even the ocean.

There is a phone, tablet apps like Allstays,  Hipcamp, to help you locate places to camp.

Camping near your car, that way you can bring coolers

and as much stuff as you want and not have to stress over what you can carry on your back.

For someone who may have never gone without electric power,

having a car near can help with power.

And another convenience having your car is if you decide in the middle of the night or a wet, windy storm.

You can relocate yourself to the car to sleep, baby steps.

The car gives you or wife the safety feeling, knowing you can leave anytime or

just climb into your car and escape from natures environment.

2 Mile Camp:

Parking your car or truck and walking 2 miles in to set up camp.

Is another way of pushing your safety limit and comfort zone.

Knowing that you are truly camping and you are close enough to your safety line if you feel the need.

You can sleep better, knowing you can just leave or go get some forgotten item.

Sleeping Bags:

A good sleeping bag is one of the main choices for any camping or backpacking trip.

It’ll be so important for warmth, comfort, safety.  And helping your body rest.

Sleeping bags are rated in degrees, Fahrenheit.

Temperature ratings on bags are a little off the exact temperature.

Leaving first-time campers a little cold, in their bags.  Leaving them a bad camping experience.

The unspoken rule is to add 10 degrees or so and from that minimum temperature.

So, in the real world, a 20-degree bag is comfy down to about freezing temperatures

and positively warm when and if nighttime temps are in the 40s,

which is common in the mountains, even at the height of summer.

If looking for a smaller size and warmer sleeping bag.

A down sleeping bag would be it.

Down bags pack for more warmth, and lighter.

For those long hikes.  Priced higher than regular sleeping bags.

Down bags will lose they are insulated capacity if they get wet.

Regular sleeping bags that use man-made fillers.

Tend to be heavier and don’t pack quite as small,

but are more affordable and will keep you warm even if you get soaked in a storm.

So picking a sleeping bag can be more important than just picking a color you like.

And prevent you shivering all night, while you wait for the sun to come up.

And don’t forget a sleeping pad, give you a little more comfort from the hard ground

So your back isn’t as stiff as a board in the morning.

And keeps you from feeling every rock.

Tents:

A lot of new campers, don’t think to try out or set up gear for their first camping or hiking adventure.

Finding it to be an adventure just setting up a new tent, for the first time.

Asking themselves “why” or “who invented this confound contraption”?

Yes set it up in your backyard or ask the store clerk to help you.

Before you find it not so easy as the package said.

Easy setup, HA, HA.  But with practice, it could be done.

Another to think about is tent placement, somewhere level,

so you don’t find a river or stream flowing through your tent, as it rains.

Camping tents vary in sizes, prices, and protection from nature, weather.

A tents capacity is an important choice, getting a 2 person tent,

won’t grow later for 4 or 6 people,

Or if you’re looking for space a 16 man tent can be your liking.

And remember weather protection, can be something to consider in buying your first camping tent.

You don’t want your tent to be blown away or washed out in a wet, windy camping trip.

Bugs and furry critters will want to visit you in the night when fires have died down.

So consider the extra protection and strength in tents, improving your ability to get a good night sleep.

And not find a surprise in your sleeping bag in the morning.

And some tents have the strong floor,

allowing you to set up chairs and tables,

for comfort from the outside like pesky mosquitoes.

Campfires:

Campfires can and to most people, the best part of a camping trip.

Sitting around talking, telling stories.

Many people underestimate the fundamentals of building

a good fire that will grow and keep the warmth in your camp.

Bring dry wood and some form of lighting gear.

Lighter, matches or flint.

Not placing your fire to close to brush or branches.

Would be awful to set the forest or mountain on fire.

While on your first trip.

And if your planning to use your campfire for cooking,

a fire needs to be made in advance of dinner.

So it has time for coals to get hot enough to cook on.

Or it might be cold sandwiches from the cooler as a backup meal.

Trash and food scraps:
  • Not sealing them up and lock away your remains.
  • Can lead to unwanted visitors in the middle of the night.
  • Leaving a big mess for you in the morning.
  • Hanging from a tree could help but foxes seem to still find it.
The clothes:

Planning for the trip, looking at weather reports.

Checking with park rangers station or park officials.

So you can get an idea of what to bring.

Aways plan to bring extra dry clothes shoes, boots.

For unplanned pore downs of rain, or slipping into a stream, it happens.

Bring Food:

Another overlooked item, that has to shorten many trips and improve the gas station sales,

brings enough food for your camping or hiking trip.

If you are going to sit around the campfire and relax,

it’s better to plan some more-involved meals.

But if your entire trip consists hiking,

canoeing, fishing, etc., you may want to choose simple meals.

Sandwiches, can of beans or soups.

And around the fire treats like instant chocolate, cocoa, and smores.

And in less your bring a camper,

you need to plan foods that won’t spoil fast and survive life, eating out of a cooler.

Try packing the perishable food directly on the ice, in the cooler.

And don’t overlook food like pasta, or canned food.

That you can open a can and heat up in a pan or pot.

Hope we remember to bring, and a can opener.

I used a knife to open a can in my old days, not easy or safe.

It really takes a lot of work using a knife on a can.
